Don’t Wait to Replace Your Roof

Why you shouldn’t wait until after hurricane season to replace your roof

With hurricane season about to begin, a lot of homeowners are hesitant to start the process of replacing their roof. The fear of rain during the reroofing process usually deters homeowners from starting. But why should homeowners NOT wait to replace their roof until after hurricane season?

One major reason is cost. Material prices increase 2-3 times throughout the year, so waiting the extra 6 months or so will add extra cost to materials. The average price increase for roofing materials rises by 5-15%, which adds up. When a major storm hits, demand for materials increases and the supply chains become constrained. This will lead to longer lead times on materials and increased costs. Ultimately, waiting until after hurricane season to replace your roof can end up costing you hundreds or thousands more.

Another concern homeowners should have with waiting until hurricane season is over to replace their roof is further damage that will be done in the case of a storm. If your roof is already showing areas of concern, such as leaking, granular loss, or exposed underlayment, then the possibility of further damaging your home is quite high. Let’s say you have a small leak, maybe just a water spot in the ceiling. That small leak can turn into a bigger one, causing damage to your ceiling, drywall, possibly floors, etc. If you had bald tires on your car and were going for a cross-country road trip, would you wait until after the trip to replace your tires? Absolutely not! If a tire blew, that could lead to some major issues for you!

The last, but most important, reason is to protect what matters most under your roof: your family. Replacing your roof before a hurricane comes will ensure the safety of your family if/when a hurricane hits us. Safety measures and ratings have drastically changed over the past 20 years.

Reroofing your home with Maimi-Dade approved materials, weather resistant underlayment, and sturdy fasteners will allow you to sleep easy knowing your most valuable assets will be safe.
